Jonathan is an award-winning writer, essay conference panelist, Center for Progressive Education & ’Topia Talk speaker, and mental health advocate. Jonathan became a children’s story writer when he strived to explain the negative health impacts of lead contamination to young children. Drawing from his experience as a docent and teaching assistant at the Lawrence Hall of Science, he wrote and translated “Don’t Eat That, Baby Potato!” to promote lead poisoning awareness. Jonathan is passionate about sharing his love for science, teaching, and writing with his peers. He promotes teen mental health awareness by founding The Sharpest Tool in the Shed (Gardening Club) at San Francisco University High School. The club brings smiles to community members across the Bay Area by donating plant kits and hand-drawn cards. Jonathan joined the UHS Debate Team as a freshman, and he has since been elected as a team leader. When he is not coaching the novice team on presentation and writing skills, you will find him recruiting new members around campus. To build team spirit and cohesion, Jonathan fundraised and designed the first team hoodie! He also serves as an editor and writer for the UHS Devil’s Advocate Newspaper and hopes to facilitate discussions on social issues.
